Transportation Research: Part B publishes papers on all methodological aspects of the subject, especially those which require mathematical analysis. The general theme of the journal is the development and solution of problems which have a substantial connection with real transportation situations. Purely mathematical exercises, which could relate to any kind of network, are excluded. For example, papers on algorithms must show a relevance to transportation.Areas covered include: demand analysis, whether economic or statistical; traffic flow models; design and analysis of transportation networks; methods of operations planning; control and scheduling; optimization in transportation; queuing theory as it applies to transportation; traffic assignment and trip distribution; economic theory. Part B's aims and scope are complementary to Transportation Research Part A: Policy and Practice, Part C: Emerging Technologies and Part D: Transport and Environment. The complete set forms the most cohesive and comprehensive reference of current research in transportation science. Selected abstracts from Transportation Research Part B: Methodological are available in TR Update, the Elsevier Science transportation newsletter.
